Chief Justice Boggs serves as a member of the Council’s Veterans Justice Commission.

Chief Justice Michael P. Boggs is a partner at HunterMaclean, where he advises clients on complex litigation, government-related issues, and strategic policy changes. With more than 35 years of experience in Georgia’s legal and public sectors, Chief Justice Boggs has served at nearly every level of the state’s judiciary and most recently served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia. He was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal in 2016 and re-elected state-wide without opposition in 2018 and in 2024. In 2022, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as Chief Justice.

Previously, Chief Justice Boggs served as a judge on the Georgia Court of Appeals, a Superior Court judge for Waycross Judicial Circuit, and State Representative to the Georgia General Assembly. During his time on the appellate bench, he authored approximately 220 Supreme Court opinions and roughly 260 Court of Appeals opinions and orders.

He has been widely recognized for his dedication to justice and public service, receiving honors such as the St. Thomas More Award, the State Bar of Georgia’s Spirit of Justice Award, and Leadership Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Award—the organization’s highest honor. In 2025, George Trend magazine also named him one of its “Most Influential Georgians.”

Chief Justice Boggs obtained his undergraduate degree in political science and psychology from Georgia Southern College in 1985 and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University School of Law in 1990.
