Don Stemen

Don Stemen

Professor, Department of Criminology, Loyola University, Chicago

Don Stemen is a professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology and the Co-Director of the Center for Criminal Justice at Loyola University, Chicago. He currently co-manages the Prosecutorial Performance Indicators, a national research and technical assistance project working with prosecutors’ offices to enhance data capacity, data-drive decision making, and transparency. Before joining Loyola, Dr. Stemen was the director of research on sentencing and corrections at the Vera Institute of Justice, where he worked with state and county governments to reform criminal justice policies.

Dr. Stemen’s research focuses on prosecutorial decision-making, prosecutorial performance measurement, and bail reform. His research has been supported through grants from the National Institute of Justice, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Arnold Ventures, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, and the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative.
