Jesse Rothman

Director, Task Force on Artificial Intelligence

Jesse Rothman leads the Council’s national initiative to develop best practices for the integration and oversight of artificial intelligence across the criminal justice system. As director of a 15-member Task Force on Artificial Intelligence, he coordinates efforts to establish consensus governance principles and operational standards for AI applications in law enforcement, courts, corrections, and community organizations.

Previously, Rothman worked in criminal justice policy and research across multiple domains. At Open Philanthropy, he served as a senior program associate on the Criminal Justice Reform program team, sourcing and managing grants and researching new and emerging opportunities. Earlier, he worked as coordinator for a college program for incarcerated students at San Quentin State Prison through the Prison University Project. Rothman has authored and been quoted in stories, policy briefs, and reports on criminal justice and emerging technology topics, including in Route Fifty, Law360, the Correctional Mental Health Report, and Governing magazine.

Rothman holds a Master of Theological Studies in Religion, Ethics, and Politics from Harvard Divinity School and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and international relations from Carleton College.
