Former Asst. AG Amy Solomon Heads New CCJ Federal Justice Initiative

April 23, 2025

Amid new cuts, opportunities, and priority shifts, Justice in Perspective will examine the complexities of federal justice funding, research, and operations.

We are delighted to announce that Amy L. Solomon, who has spent her career advancing evidence-based strategies for safety and justice, is joining the Council on Criminal Justice team as a Senior Fellow. Solomon will direct a new CCJ project called Justice in Perspective, which aims to unpack the complex systems of federal justice funding, policy, research, and operations.

The project will leverage Solomon’s deep experience in government, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector. As a senior leader and nonpartisan policy entrepreneur, Solomon is widely respected across the country and political spectrum, most recently serving as the Assistant Attorney General of the Office of Justice Programs, the U.S. Department of Justice’s largest grantmaking agency.

Through a series of briefs and essays, Solomon will examine current challenges and opportunities created by the Trump administration and explore what’s needed to enhance federal efforts to improve public safety and the fair administration of justice. Focus areas will include federal justice grant funding, access to data, the federal workforce, and efforts to streamline grantmaking and make it more transparent.

We’re honored to welcome Solomon to the CCJ team and look forward to her advancing critical conversations about the federal government’s role in promoting safety and justice in communities across the nation.
