Rea Holmes

Director and Senior Counsel, The Pew Charitable Trusts

Driving Rea’s work is a longstanding interest in government and belief that everyone should have the right to participate freely in elections and have their voice heard. Previously working in private practice and with government agencies, Rea now focuses her efforts on the nonprofit sector, where she advises organizations in service of improving government.

In her current role with Pew, Rea serves as a trusted strategic partner to senior and executive leaders, providing legal advice and breaking down complex legal concepts in a way they can understand and practically employ to achieve their goals. She works to provide the organization with the preventative care and legal counseling needed to plan for the future and protect the business.

Rea has a long history of marrying legal knowledge with practical application, providing strategic counsel on launching, merging, and dissolving nonprofits. She advises organizations on issues such as complex transactions, state campaign finance law, securing tax-exempt status, intellectual property, lobbying, contracting, ethics, and more. Rea received her JD from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, and her BA in political science and Afro-American studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
