Mike Thompson is an independent consultant whose clients include large nonprofits, private foundations of different sizes, national membership associations, and major academic institutions.
Previously, Mike was a senior vice president at the Pew Charitable Trusts, where he worked for five years leading much of that organization’s domestic policy work. He oversaw the design of new initiatives on a range of topics, such as housing affordability, suicide prevention, and the civil legal system. Before his time with Pew, Mike worked for 20 years at the Council of State Governments, a nonpartisan membership association representing governors, legislators, and judges from the 50 states. At CSG, Mike founded the Justice Center, a place where Republicans and Democrats in state and local government combined data and expertise of people on the front lines of courts, public safety, health, housing, and other systems to design policies that would increase public safety and strengthen communities.
Mike has been quoted extensively in the national and local media, testified frequently before Congress and state legislatures, lectured for various graduate school programs, and authored countless reports and articles. He is fluent in Spanish.
Mike received his BA from Middlebury College, where he graduated with honors.
We have accomplished a lot together in our first five years, but we are just getting started. Will you support the Council as we build bridges across ideological divides and craft consensus for solutions?
