Founder and Executive Director, For The People

Blout is the Founder and Executive Director of For The People, the national nonprofit working with prosecutors to look back at past sentences and safely bring people home from prison. In 2018, Blout drafted and secured the passage of AB 2942—the first Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing law in the country—and is now spearheading its implementation.

Blout was previously a prosecutor for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. She is a fierce advocate for victims of crime, having spent years focusing on crimes against women and children. In 2022, Blout became the recipient of Fast Company’s 2022 World-Changing Ideas Award for her innovations in criminal justice. She was also awarded the Powerful Women of the Bay recognition for her work’s positive regional impact. Her writing has appeared in The Washington Post, Newsweek, USA Today, Bloomberg, and the American Bar Association Journal.

Blout currently leads the nation’s first Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing clinic at the University of California, Davis Law School. In 2021, she also hosted Prosecution Leaders of Now ensuring executive education for emerging leaders in prosecution.
