Bio: David Kirk is Professor in the Department of Sociology and Professorial Fellow of Nuffield College at Oxford University. He is also a University Trustee and serves as one of two Proctors of the university, responsible for upholding university statutes and policies. Kirk received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago, and previously served on the faculties at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Maryland. Kirk's research agenda is primarily organized around three inter-related themes: the causes and consequences of gun violence, solutions to criminal recidivism, and the causes and consequences of police misconduct. In April 2024, Kirk will join the Department of Criminology at the University of Pennsylvania as Professor of Criminology.
