Examining changes in 13 offenses across a sample of 36 large U.S. cities, CCJ’s mid-year analysis shows crime has continued to fall in the first half of 2026, with homicide likely dropping to another historic low.
With homicide down 21%, the 2025 homicide rate may reach the lowest level ever recorded in law enforcement or public health data going back to 1900, CCJ’s year-end analysis finds.
Homicide and other violent crimes continue to fall below pre-pandemic levels in a sample of 42 U.S. cities. CCJ’s mid-year 2025 analysis also shows a year-over-year decrease in 11 of the 13 offenses.
