Armando Aguilar

Assistant Chief, Miami Police Department

Assistant Chief of Police Armando R. Aguilar is the Miami Police Department’s (MPD) Administration Division Chief, where he oversees approximately 300 sworn and civilian employees. He has held senior management positions in all divisions of the MPD (Criminal Investigations, Field Operations, Administration, Internal Affairs, and the Office of the Chief of Police). Aguilar has implemented offender-focused strategies that have contributed to both record-level reductions in violent crime and corresponding increases in case clearance rates. He also led the expansion of the MPD’s Real Time Crime Center and Crime Gun Intelligence Center. In 2023, he began serving a 3-year term as a member of the Law Enforcement Subcommittee of the National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee, which advises the president on matters related to the use of AI in law enforcement. He is also a steering committee member for the University of Chicago’s Policing Leadership Academy. 

Aguilar holds a Master of Public Administration from Barry University and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University. He holds an Executive Certificate in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police.  Aguilar is also a Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional.
