    Bio: After almost 15 years on the Philadelphia City Council, Michael A. Nutter was elected Mayor of his hometown in November 2007. By the end of his two terms, homicides were at an almost 50-year low, high school graduation and college degree attainment rates had increased significantly, and, despite the damaging impact of the Great Recession, Philadelphia’s economy had demonstrated significant growth. In addition, Nutter’s strong financial stewardship helped upgrade Philadelphia’s credit rating to the “A” category by the three major credit rating agencies for the first time since the 1970s. In 2011, Esquire magazine named Nutter to its Americans of the Year list and in 2014, he was named Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine.

    Bio 2: In affiliation with the National League of Cities, Nutter and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu launched Cities United, an initiative aimed at creating partnerships between cities, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to combat violence and crime among African-American men and boys. As president of the United States Conference of Mayors, he strengthened federal-city relationships and promoted the development of effective national urban policy. Nutter also served on President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Advisory Council.

    Bio 3: Since leaving public service in January 2016, Nutter has remained active in public policy, government, and civic life. He is a visiting fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Institute of Politics, and a Distinguished Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Nutter also serves on the board of directors of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the Council on Criminal Justice, the Urban Institute, the Heartland Alliance, and the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation.

    Bio 4: A life-long Philadelphian, Nutter graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Lisa have two children.
